My Favorite REI Hiking & Backpacking Gear On Sale

Now to the good stuff. Here are some of my absolute favorite pieces of gear from REI that are worth buying – now on sale!

Hiking the Trans Catalina Trail with my Osprey Eja pack, REI Sahara Shirt, NEMO Hornet Osmo Tent, REI Magma Sleeping Bag & Jetboil Flash – all on sale!

Osprey Eja & Exos 58L Backpacking Packs (25% Off)

My go-to backpacking pack for years now, the Osprey Eja is the goldilocks of comfort, carrying capacity (58L) and weight (Eja XS/S weighs just 2lbs 11 oz). I’ve carried this pack over 100s of miles in the past 2 years, and she’s held up wonderfully! I honestly have very few complaints when it comes to this pack, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

At 25% off, this pack is now under $200! That’s about as good a price as you can possibly find on a lightweight backpacking pack that doesn’t sacrifice anything on quality and comfort.

The Eja is a women’s specific fit, while the Exos is intended for male bodies, but obviously, choose the pack that works for you!

If you’re looking to dip your toe into lightweight gear, but don’t want to spend big bucks – the REI Flash 55L Pack is the best deal on the market. This Pack is compatible with REI’s “Packmod” products – meaning you can add accessories like internal pockets you want, or remove features like hip belt pockets, you don’t.

Weighing in at 2lbs 11oz, this pack isnt “ultralight” but at $139 you cant find a more cost effective pack at this sale!

REI Half Dome SL+ Tent (30% Off)

A perfect backpacking tent for beginners and experienced hikers alike. In fact the REI Half Dome Tent is the first backpacking tent I ever used.

This tent is completely freestanding, making it very easy to use, spacious, and has plenty of space for 2 people plus gear. The 2p size weighs about 4 lbs and is already reasonably priced at $349 – now on sale for $249.

Shop the REI Half Dome SL+ Tent, here.

My NEMO Hornet Tent on the Trans-Catalina Trail

NEMO Hornet Osmo Tent (25% Off)

I just switched to this semi-freestanding 2-person tent for the Trans-Catalina Trail, and loved it. The NEMO Hornet Osmo is, realistically, a bit tight for 2 people plus their gear, but it’s perfect for 1 person plus gear, and weighs in at 2 lb 8 oz (without footprint).

If you’re looking for a lightweight tent option, this is a great one to consider. And with 25% off right now, this tent (ordinarily $429) becomes a much more affordable $322.

Shop the NEMO Hornet Osmo Tent, here.

REI Magma Sleeping Bags (30% Off)

This just might be the best value 3-season backpacking sleeping bag on the market. It’s lightweight, packable, and ultra warm. I’m a very cold sleeper and the REI Magma 15 Degree Sleeping Bag is the first bag I’ve used that actually keeps me completely warm on cold nights!

Also available in a 30 Degree version, this bag is ideal for warm sleepers or summer trips. Filled with 850-fill goose down and comes in at a lightweight 1 lb 8 oz (medium). You’d be hard-pressed to find a better backpacking bag for less than $400.

Jetboil Cook Systems (25% Off)

Compact, lightweight, and fuel-efficient, the Jetboil Flash is ideal for backpacking. The all-in-one Jetboil cook systems include an insulated pot, stove, and built-in push igniter.

I love that I can boil water in literally seconds with the Jetboil Flash system, perfect for re-hydrating backpacking meals after a long day or making my morning cup of coffee at camp.

For a more advanced cooking system, the MiniMo Cooking System has a working simmer control, meaning you can cook gourmet meals in the backcountry without sacrificing weight.

Sawyer Squeeze Water Filter (25% Off)

If you’ve ever wondered “hey, how do people get water in the backcountry?” the answer these days is almost universally a Sawyer Water Filter. Collect water in the provided water bag (or use your own, l love the CNOC 2L bag) and filter it by squeezing the water through the filter. Voila! Purified water ready to drink without the worry of contamination and itty bitty floating junk.

The Sawyer is so incredibly useful, it lives in my pack year-round! Don’t miss taking 25% off this must-have item!
